When shipping your car overseas, it’s only natural that you want to ensure you make the best choices when it comes to how you ship your car. However, there are loads of things to think about, which can make choosing the best options more difficult than it first seems.

To ease your fears and give you a little help, we at Willship have busted five common shipping myths apart. This will help you to know exactly what you are getting into next time you ship your car.

ROLL-ON/ROLL-OFF SHIPPING IS CHEAPER THAN CONTAINER SHIPPING.

While in many cases this one is certainly true, whether it is actually cheaper or not can also depend on what exactly you are shipping.

If you are just shipping one car, then roll-on/roll-off will almost certainly be cheaper. However, if you are shipping more than one car, or even shipping a car along with some other items, then you may be able to save some money by shipping via container.

IT’LL BE CHEAPER JUST TO BUY/RENT A CAR WHEN I ARRIVE.

Like the other options on the list, whether this is true or not will depend on your specific situation. If you are just going abroad for a short holiday, then, of course, renting a car will be cheaper.

If, however, you are going away for a longer period of time, or even to live in another country, then shipping your car can be more cost effective.

Not only can you save some money, but you will have your own car to use when you get to your destination!

I CAN SIMPLY SHIP MY CAR AND DRIVE IT WHEN IT ARRIVES.

This one is a little unfortunate, but depending on the country you go to, you will often have to go through a process to check and register your car.

The good news, however, is that as long as you prepare your documents in advance it is usually a fairly simple process to go through.

MY CAR WILL GET DAMAGED DURING THE SHIPPING PROCESS.

Vehicle shipping is massive industry used by everyone from huge car companies exporting their vehicles abroad, to individuals bringing their cars with them as they move house.

The whole process is done every single day and almost all of the cars that get shipped arrive at their destination without even a scratch.

YOU CAN SHIP YOUR CAR AS IT IS

Before shipping, and depending on the type of shipping that you choose, your car will have to be well prepared. If you choose roll-on/roll-off shipping you will have to make sure that your car is (amongst other things) completely empty, thoroughly cleaned, and has a little bit of gas.

Container shipping doesn’t require your car to be completely empty, however, you should still make sure it is clean to reduce the chance of your car being quarantined when you arrive at your destination.
